Alaska in July

Rain and more rain and 60 degrees. We have had no summer at all. Two weeks ago, Eileen (my daughter) and I went to Fairbanks to see her friend Tonya. We had a really good time, camping at Chena Hot Springs. Unfortunately the water was too hot 112 degrees but we had fun in the pool. We camped in a tent near Tonya and her little boy Joey. The only disturbing factor was a neighbor camper. We think he imbibed just a little too much. He came over first for salt and pepper which we did not have. Then he said Hi to Joey. He said "What is your name?" Joey told him. The man said "Joby". Joey said no in a higher octave with a little frustration"Joey". The guy then said, "Oh Jodi". Again Joey said "NO..." Joey repeated this several times. The man left and I think Joey was totally confused by his talk with the strange man who played loud music most of the night. The man left his truck door open with a CD playing all night to the likes of "Achy, Breaky Heart." The same tune played for hours.

The next morning after only some intermittent sleep, Eileen and I came home to Wasilla. But we certainly had a wonderful time visiting and seeing Tonya and Joey's knew home in Fairbanks, Alaska.

The Newest Addition

These are Harland's kitties. They are mine too but they think Harland is their own person. Echo is the largest cat but our newest addition is Suzy Q. She is a cross between a Siamese and a Rag Doll cat. Harland thinks she is wonderful. He had to have her and given that I love him I had to give in. She spends most of her evening chasing his feet but he does not seem to mind all the little scratches. Once in awhile he changes her name to "Little S---"

Our Anniversary

Today is July 2nd. On July 2nd 1966 we were married. It seems so long ago and yet not long enough. Harland bought me beautiful red roses and a lovely card. My daughter made dinner and we worry about our future with his kidney cancer. I think what a bummer. I keep asking why. Someone I know said that I should ask what God wants of me. I am not sure I know how to do that or what the answer would be if I listened in the way that I should listen. It has been so long. We have had some rough times and some happy times. Lately it has been mostly rough. Sometimes I just feel very numb.
